Paguera and Cala Fornells

Location

Along with Palma Nova, Magaluf and Santa Ponsa, Paguera makes up the municipality of Calvia, on the south west coast of Mallorca, around 35km from Palma.

Description

Like many Mallorcan villages, Paguera was originally a small fishing settlement until the tourism boom of the 1960s.  Since then it has grown into a sizeable resort, catering principally for the German tourist, attracted by its three beaches – Playa Palmira, Playa Tora and Playa La Romana.  All are joined by a promenade which plays host to a number of cafes and bars.  Bar Tora beach in particular, is renowned for its fresh fish dishes.

As with many resorts, the busiest area of the town tends to be concentrated by a small network of streets, set back from the beach. Here you will find a number of shops, fashion boutiques, cafes, bars and restaurants.

Little remains of Paguera’s history and character, the focus being on non-stop entertainment, although the resort is not as busy or noisy as Palma Nova or Magaluf.  However, during the winter months, Paguera slows its pace and returns to a more if not traditional, certainly a more mature way of life.

Cala Fornells is situated 2km west of Paguera.  It is renowned for being an area comprised of expensive residential properties and has a beautiful beach.

In close proximity to Paguera’s facilities but still far enough away to avoid the tourists, its elegant surroundings means that properties here are usually very luxurious and very expensive.  A four bedroom villa in Cala Fornells will probably cost just under €1m.
