Puerto de San Miguel

A much smaller resort, Puerto de San Miguel is situated at the northern end of Ibiza, only five kilometres from the village of San Miguel.

Description

Once a fishing port for the nearby village, Puerto de San Miguel is much more low-key than many of the other resorts on the island. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and high, pine-clad cliffs, the jewel in the resort’s crown is its perfect sandy beach and clear, shallow waters which are protected by the natural shape of the bay.  There is a diving school here, as the waters are ideal for water sports.

Close by are the famous, fossilised caves of Can Marça, over 100,000 years old and once the haunt of smugglers.  Formed by earth faults, they provide a fascinating insight into cave formations, fossils, and the history of those less salubrious vagabonds which used the caves regularly, many years ago.

The village is one of the few resorts on the island that has not yet been fully commercialised, so property for sale in Puerto de San Miguel is in demand and therefore fairly limited.  There are only a couple of gift shops, although there are a few excellent sea food restaurants and bars, which line the beach.  There are also regular buses, running to San Miguel village and the rest of the island.

Because this is a lesser known area for tourism and therefore relatively unspoilt, property prices are considerably higher in this part of Ibiza.  There are only two hotels and a handful of apartments, so most of the property for sale in Puerto de San Miguel tends to be villas.  A four bedroom villa in Puerto de San Miguel is likely to be priced over Euros1,000,000 in the current market.
